March 2011. GWP-Lithuania joined International Drought Management Programme which is coordinated by the GWP and WMO.
April 5, 2011. Bernardas Paukštys, Chair of GWP-Lithuania participated in the workshop “Parallels: Water Resources Management Aspects of European Union Strategies for Baltic Sea and Danube Regions” in Budapest, Hungary. More than 40 experts from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden attended the workshop. The workshop was a joint initiative of the Global Water Partnership Hungary (GWP- Hungary) and Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE).
April 6 – 7, 2011. Bernardas Paukštys together with other GWPCEE Council memebers attended the GWP CEE Council Meeting which was held in the Hunguest Hotel Griff, Budapest, Hungary.
May 18, 2011. Workshop of Water Stakeholders in Kaliningrad.
The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) together with its partners Northern Dimension Foundation and GWP in Lithuania and Poland has prepared a report “Managing and Development of the Water Resources Assets in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia in Support of Economic Growth and Environmental Sustainability”.
The report was presented to the Vice Governor of the Kaliningrad Oblast and subsequently in a workshop on 18 May to both Federal and Oblast level senior officials, representatives of private sector, and scientific experts. The workshop was attended by 36 different stakeholders that have an interest in water resources in the Kaliningrad Oblast.
Experience of the neighbor countries of Lithuania and Poland in the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive and IWRM offers options to work in partnership to prepare joint management and development plans for the transboundary Pregola and Neman river basins. “We can not develop a comprehensive Nemunas (Neman) river basin district management plan without involvement of the Kaliningrad Oblast” - Bernardas Paukstys, Chair of GWP Lithuania mentioned in his presentation.
June 14, 2011 Bernardas Paukštys, GWPCEE Council member attended the meeting of Coordination Group of the Protocol on Water and Health to the 1992 Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. In March 22, 2011 Bernardas Paukštys has been approved as a member of Coordination group by the order of the Minister of Health and Minister of Environment, Republic of Lithuania.
July 26-28, 2011 Bernardas Paukstys, Chair of GWP Lithuania participated in the all-Russian conference on “Sustainability of water bodies in catchments and coastal territories; risks of their use”. The conference was held in Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad Oblast. More than 100 participants from different regions of Russia took part in the conference. Bernardas Paukstys made a presentation in Russian language “River Basin Management in Lithuania”. Invitation to the conference was an outcome of the previous stakeholder meeting on 18 May initiated by SIWI.
October 25, 2011 Bernardas Paukstys, GWP Lithuania, Tomasz Okruszko and Janusz Kindler, GWP Poland, participated in the 13th Baltic Development Forum Summit in Gdansk, Poland. Bernardas, Tomasz and Janusz were part of the team which included also Natalya Smorodinskaja, Institute of Economy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow and Andreas Lindström, Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). GWP and SIWI representatives have been invited to the forum to present the results of transboundary cooperation project with the Kaliningrad Oblast. The presentation on behalf of GWP CEE and SIWI was made by Tomasz Okruszko.
December 8, 2011 Bernardas Paukštys participated in the seminar-discussion of the Water Problem Council at the Academy of Sciences, Lithuania with the topic „ Lithuanian Rivers: coordination of economic development and environmental aspects“ .
December 20, 2011 Bernardas Paukštys attended the seminar with the topic „ Remediation Issues of Polluted territories and Groundwater“. About 100 water stakeholders from ministries, municipalities, academia and society attended the seminar. Bernardas Paukštys made a presentation „Management Plans and Programmes of Measures for the Improvement of Status of Lithuanian Water Bodies“.
